Halloween Best Practices

October 18, 2021|

With Halloween right around the corner, you are probably prepping your costume, decking out the front of your house with cobwebs and skeletons, and preparing yourself for the slew of candy that will undeniably be coming your way at the end of the month. Here at Utah Orthodontic Care, your local Salt Lake City provider of affordable braces, we want you to enjoy this halloween’s festivities while also keeping in mind the damage that excessive halloween candy can do to your teeth. Find out what best practices you can use to protect your teeth from tooth decay and to keep your braces clean and intact this Halloween!

Picking and Choosing Your Treats

When it comes to candy, not all sweets are created equal. There are some candies that are particularly damaging to your teeth, especially if you’ve got braces, where sticky candies can get stuck. You can improve your oral health this Halloween simply by educating yourself on which sweets to avoid and steering clear of the following treats:

  • Caramels or Chews
  • Sugar Filled Lollipops or suckers
  • Nougat and Taffy
  • Any candy containing nuts
  • Anything gummy or sticky (especially if you have braces)

Oral Hygiene On The Go

Whether you are going to school or to the office you are bound to encounter tempting bowls of candy this October. One of the easiest ways to ensure that your teeth stay clean during halloween season is to bring an on-the-go oral hygiene kit with you wherever you travel. By bringing a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss with you, you can clean out halloween candy residue before it hardens on your teeth and leads to tooth decay. Ask your orthodontist at Utah Orthodontic Care what the best travel products are for keeping your teeth clean!
