A Targeted Approach to Correcting Minor Orthodontic Issues
Limited (Partial) Braces are an efficient and cost-effective treatment option for correcting specific dental concerns in children during early development. At Utah Orthodontic Care, we recommend partial braces when only a small number of teeth — often the front upper or lower teeth — require adjustment, rather than full-arch correction.
Often used as part of Phase I Orthodontics, limited braces focus on short-term intervention to fix problems before they escalate. This can include spacing issues, slight misalignments, or early crowding. By addressing these concerns while the jaw is still growing, we can improve both aesthetics and oral function — while reducing the need for more extensive treatment later.
What Are Limited Braces?
Unlike comprehensive braces that involve brackets on all the teeth, limited braces are applied only to a select area of the mouth. This may involve:
- The four to six front teeth
- Only the top or bottom dental arch
- Teeth adjacent to newly erupting permanent molars
- A combination of baby and adult teeth in transitional dentition
This approach offers the flexibility to correct key issues in growing children while their bite is still evolving. It can also be used to prepare the mouth for other treatments, like space maintainers or habit appliances, when alignment must be addressed first.
Benefits of Partial Braces for Early Orthodontic Treatment
Limited braces are especially beneficial for young patients who aren’t yet ready for full orthodontic treatment but show early signs of misalignment or spacing problems.
Advantages include:
- Early correction of cosmetic concerns — improving confidence during school-age years
- Minimizing the risk of future bite issues
- Shorter treatment duration — typically 6 to 12 months
- Lower cost compared to full braces
- Simplified hygiene routines — fewer brackets mean easier brushing and flossing
- Stabilization before permanent teeth erupt
Partial braces are often used alongside other bite correction techniques such as functional appliances or removable plates.
What to Expect During Treatment
Once our orthodontic specialists determine that limited braces are the right solution, we will:
- Take diagnostic X-rays and digital impressions
- Apply brackets to the designated teeth
- Monitor progress through regular adjustments (every 4–6 weeks)
- Remove the braces once alignment is corrected
- Provide a customized retainer or holding appliance to preserve results
This process is tailored to your child’s stage of dental development, and it complements other elements of Phase I space and growth management.

Our customers love our service! Here are some of their glowing reviews:
“This clinic is AWESOME! Everyone is so friendly and the doctor is great! I’m happy with my teeth and you really can’t beat the price! Great services and low pricing! I would recommend everyone to come here! Also they are always doing patient appreciation events that are so fun! Bring your kids, your spouse, your friends, your neighbors, BRING EVERYONE!”
“Great orthodontics! I got my braces at UOC and they’ve been so amazing! First appointment is free, they’ll evaluate your teeth and talk to you about braces option options and prices/ plans. My dental insurance did not cover braces for adults ( I chose not to when I made my plan ) and even if I switched my plan I don’t think it would be a nice affordable plan like UOC offered me with monthly payments … I’m happy with them! They were always nice, friendly and flexible with schedules! Recommend it 100%!”
“I love this office. The doctor is fun with the kids, very friendly and approachable. The staff is typically very easy to work with and any time we have any question or concern they have been quick to make it right with us. We had a billing hiccup and Lauren was incredibly understanding and made the process to fix it easy. As a lower income family with multiple kids needing orthodontic work, this has been a huge weight off my shoulders. I cannot recommend them enough.”
