A Life Rooted in Family, Sports, and Advocacy
Originally from San Diego, California, Dr. J and his wife, Serena, made Utah their home after their oldest daughter began playing college basketball at Snow College. A father of four—three daughters and one son—he has spent 15 years coaching girls’ basketball and remains active in youth and community programs.
One of Dr. J’s deepest passions is his involvement in adaptive sports through the Special Olympics. His son, Jayson, is a nationally recognized adaptive golfer and multi-time tournament winner, including first-place finishes at Torrey Pines in 2024 and 2025. As Jayson’s dedicated caddie, Dr. J travels to support him across the country and internationally—including the 2025 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany.
In his downtime, Dr. J enjoys:
- Surfing the California coast
- Golfing Utah’s mountain courses
- Hiking throughout the Wasatch Range
- Volunteering with adaptive athletic programs
His perspective as both a healthcare provider and parent brings a layer of empathy and motivation that truly resonates with the families he serves.
